Nyle: Let the Beat Build

“I ain’t need no sambo/Got a girl with a banjo.”

There’s alotta live instrumentation on here. Even if there wasn’t, Nyle would be able rap about anything from the new era depression to the sidewalk.

J Dilla x Black Thought

This doesn’t necessitate commentary. But the track’s from the mysterious Pay Jay disc…

The Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue

What follows is ample proof that Eric Dolphy rules the roost as it were…

Standards: Ramblin’ Jack Elliott

Really, words can’t do this gentleman justice. But he’s 77, tours the States in an RV and is probably capable of out drinkin’ anyone you know – I’ve seen it.

You Big Dummy

I can’t begin to explain why Paris Hilton is included in the images for the Beefheart version of “I Love You, You Big Dumy.” And it’s probably sacrilegious to proclaim my preference for the Magazine version, but there it is. Unfortunately, this cover and “Shot By Both Sides” pretty much makes up the entirety of Magazine’s useful recorded legacy.

Mighty Diamonds – Deeper Roots (Dubs)

When folks mention the Mighty Diamonds, this disc usually isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. It should be though. And even if it’s not inna showcase style, the disc being split between vocals and dubs still works out.

Print – Comic Books: Unlimited

Hopefully, some folks remember “Superfriends” from a few months ago. That track, however, seems at best distant from the rest of Comic Books: Unlimited. There aren’t too many dudes workin’ with this kinda production. Even if there were, though, Print’s flow is unique enough to get him over.

Wooden Wand x Bad Ju-Ju

Some dude’s have worse years than others, but WW’s might beat out most. The new disc is sub-par, but check the write up at x Osmosis.
