Tash – “New Bikini” (Amalgam Digital)

If you close your eyes, you can almost pretend it’s Tha Liks…

Any other rapper goin’ in on this beat would make it impossible to stomach…and yeah, the video is ridiculous. Some of the comic book panel stuff is pretty decent, though…

Darondo’s “Listen to My Song”

Some new soul from a Bay Area legend. Maybe he was a pimp, maybe he wasn’t.

Even if the best part of “Listen to My Song” is when there’s a close up of Darondo’s feet dancing on some indoor/outdoor carpet, “Didn’t I” is still classic.

A History of Desmond Dekker via YouTube

That first song is a bit too tied to the 2-Tone movement for my tastes, but everything else below is golden. And that interview seems pretty interesting despite the fact that viewers are necessitated to take Desmond seriously with that hat on…

Don Drummond x Re-Issues

bellevuespecial1

“Bellevue Special” b/w “Up and Down” has apparently been so sought after that a Japanese label reissued the single from Skatalites’ trombonist Don Drummond. It’s not at all detached from the Skatalites’ catalog, but for the collector geek in you, COP IT.

The Meat Puppets x ALARM Magazine

Brother Cris talks about the Meat Puppets’ newest disc and where it got cobbled together while Brother Curt talks about success. It’s weird to see these guys at this point, but it’s kinda like listening to stories from your grandpa.

The Velvet Underground x Beck

An explanation is down below, but here’s Beck working out a few cuts from the first Velvet Underground album. These are interpretations as much as covers, so you might wanna just dust off those old cds…

“An informal meeting of various people to record an album in a day. An album will be chosen to be reinterpreted and used as a framework. Nothing rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track will be uploaded once a week on beck.com as well as through the web sites of those involved with the project.”
